Have a response ready before the binge-purge urge takes over...

1. Open the Tapping Vault on your device.
2. Pick the video for 'tapping on the urge to binge', or 'the urge to purge'
3. Watch the video and copy me.
4. And then you notice how different you feel.
It gets to be that simple -
not because bulimia recovery is simple,
but because what you do in those 60 seconds between recognising the urge and
a) acting on it or
b) making a different choice
needs to be.

I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN TRYING TO RECOVER. You've tried to sit with your feelings. You've watched the clock and told yourself they would pass, and sometimes it did pass, and sometimes you sat there for twenty minutes with your whole body braced against something that only got louder.
You've tried bargaining. If I just have this one thing. If I start again on Monday. If this is the last time. And you’ve had 100+ last times.
You've tried going for a walk, reading a book, phoning a friend. It sounded reasonable on paper. It bought you an hour. But an hour isn't the same as being free of it, and as soon as you stopped distracting yourself the urge was still there.
And it still feels like you just. can't. stop. it.

UNDERNEATH ALL OF THAT, THERE'S THE FRUSTRATION that you understand the cycle. You know your triggers. You can often see the whole thing coming hours in advance. You've done the reading and the reflecting and possibly the therapy, and you're not the person you were two years ago who had no idea why any of it was happening.
Which is when the thought arrives “maybe there's something wrong with me”. Other people recover. Other people read the same things you read and something clicks and they move on with their lives. So why can you see it coming and still not prevent it?
I don’t think there is anything wrong with you - you're responding understandably given your life experiences!

This is the gap you never learn about.
Understanding your triggers is genuinely useful (and we’ll lean on that understanding inside the Tapping Vault).
However, you’re most likely trying to use willpower to implement a new response against a pattern your body has practised hundreds of times and is very, very good at!
You’ve learnt that bingeing works. Purging works. It’s quickly and reliably taken the edge off (even if it comes with a long list of ways it’s costing you your health and happiness). Trying to concentrate on a new book isn’t giving your body the same release or relief.
So the question isn't really why can't I stop myself?
It's what am I actually meant to do with my body, in the moment, instead?

The Bulimia Recovery Tapping Vault is an on-demand collection of follow-along videos designed to help you calm your nervous system and separate yourself from the urge. Videos intended for use in the moment of an urge or anxiety are 5-10 minutes long, with a few longer videos to watch when you're out of the intense moment and wanting to explore your patterns and habits.
Within your monthly membership you also get access to 2 live members calls (recording available) to help you build your skills so you can ‘tap’ any time, anywhere, on any topic!! And to answer any questions you may have - e.g., “why did you say certain phrases in the video on releasing guilt?” or “how do I make tapping part of my routine?”

Tapping is a technique where you use your fingertips to tap on specific points on your hand, face and upper body, while you focus on the thing that's bothering you - either by saying it out loud or just holding it in mind.
The points sit along energy pathways (meridians) used in acuppuncture, which is why you'll sometimes hear tapping described as psychological acupressure. The idea behind it is that the distress you're feeling isn't only in your thoughts - it's held in your body - and that tapping while you focus on it helps that stored charge move and settle.
What people usually notice is that the thing they were focusing on gets quieter. Not necessarily gone, but it feels less impactful and further away.
Which I believe is exactly the amount of space you need to make a different choice.
You're at your desk and the thought arrives - the familiar one, about what you could buy after work and what you'd do with the evening. And instead of the next four hours being decided for you, you put your headphones in for six minutes.
You get through an impromptu brunch without spending the whole meal calculating and recalculating what you're 'allowed' to eat later or planning how to compensate.
You wake up on a Wednesday and don't promise yourself things will be different today, because you don't need to make promises about things that aren't running your life anymore.
You go on the holiday, and you're actually there for it - not being careful to avoid triggers, not trying your hardest to look ok so no one questions you, and not counting down to when you can be alone.
And the money you were spending - the hundreds a month that vanished into the cycle - go somewhere you're consciously choosing.
I'm not going to tell you that happens in a fortnight.
But I've watched enough people get there to know it isn't a fantasy, and that it starts with having something to do in the moments that currently feel like they have no exit.

I get how annoying it is now you’re starting to understand your triggers more but still find yourself acting on them because you don’t know how to cope another way.
While studying my PhD in the psychology of eating I was also bingeing and making myself throw-up multiple times per day! I’d sit in my office and fantastise about the binge food I’d buy on the way home - even though I wanted more than anything to eat healthily and feel in control around food.
It got to a point where I was so reliant on bingeing and purging to get me through the day (I’d literally wake up and work out if I had time to out to the shop and get food to binge before I needed to be in a meeting) that I realised maybe compensating wasn’t even about the food anymore! Since part of my PhD was about habits, I started to apply what I knew to myself.

During my Master Practitioner in Eating Disorder training I learnt about Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or ‘tapping) and how it could support clients when they felt flooded with emotions or to process traumatic memories. I’ve since taken 4 training courses in tapping (because old habits die hard and why only take 1 when you can be an over-achiever!!) and taught it to all my clients since 2020!
Some of my clients have experienced huge wins - like tapping in the work toilets less than hour after a session on a situation that on any other day would have been the start of a binge. Or feelings of guilt reducing from a 9/10 to feeling irrelevant in 2 week!!!
I’ve wanted to make the tapping vault since 2025 and it never seemed like the perfect time. But if there’s one thing I know, it’s that that ‘perfect time’ hardly ever presents itself. So I decided to take the leap and launch the vault.
I’m so excited that you’re considering membership!
The Vault is an on-demand library of follow-along tapping videos, made specifically for bulimia recovery, plus members get two opportunities to ask me questions every month!
The moment you join and create a password for your portal account, you get instant access to the tapping videos. No drip-feed, no waiting for module two. If you join at 11pm on a bad night, you can be tapping at 11:03!

At least four every month. Before Christmas: choosing to let go of judgement, releasing perfectionism, exploring shame overflow tapping series, and believing change is possible for you.
No. There's a video explaining the points and how it works, and the first live call in August is an introduction - including tapping on any scepticism about tapping, which is a genuinely useful place to start.
Maybe. It can look odd if you're not used to it. Doing it at home with nobody watching tends to help you feel better about it quickly, and there's a video for when you wonder if it's working.
Yes, and a lot of members will be. The Vault is designed for the moments between appointments, when you’re taking responsibility for recovery. Although you might want to talk to your therapist about signing up.
As an evidence-based practitioner and former researcher, I want to be straightforward with you - tapping is not a magic cure for bulimia. Recovery has a lot of moving parts - the food, your body, the beliefs underneath all of it. Tapping can help to reduce stress levels, process memories and in doing so I have seen people shift their beliefs and behaviour through tapping. But it’s not a one-hit wonder and other support (e.g., doctor, dietician, therapist) can be necessary/advisable.
If you want to look at the research yourself before you decide, EFT International keep the studies in one place: eftinternational.org
If you have another question please email [email protected] and I'd be happy to answer.
so what are you waiting for?
You've run that film time and time again.
.
The thing I'd want you to consider is what could be the difference between the version where the urge takes over and the version where it doesn't isn't willpower, and it isn't wanting it enough. You want it enough. You've wanted it enough for years.
It's whether there's something else to reach for in the ninety seconds where everything seems to get decided.
That's what the Vault is. Something to reach for. Made by someone who knows exactly what those ninety seconds feel like, and who has spent seven years helping people find their way out of them.
You don't have to be certain. You just have to be willing to have a go at something different.
